Jaren terug, Nathalie was zwanger van haar oudste dus zo’n dertien jaar geleden, liep ze in Parijs een MUJI winkel binnen. Al snel gingen we samen nog eens terug en ook Tessa was direct verkocht. In deze winkel vind je alledaagse producten zonder merk maar met aandacht voor functionaliteit, kwalitatieve materialen en eenvoudige verpakkingen. Daarnaast zijn de producten ook nog eens betaalbaar. En juist dát alles samen maakt het zo aantrekkelijk. Helaas zijn er geen winkels in Nederland. Op het eerste gezicht onbegrijpelijk maar als je er wat langer over nadenkt, hebben wij natuurlijk HEMA. Ook Dille en Kamille heeft overeenkomsten met de visie van MUJI. En stiekem is het ook altijd een feestje om een winkel te bezoeken als je in een land bent waar er wél eentje is.

Het merk MUJI breidt zich verder uit en na de winkels, zijn er nu ook concrete plannen voor een MUJI HUT. Deze herfst worden, overigens alleen in Japan, de kleine minimalistische woningen geheel volgens MUJI concept gelanceerd. Het idee achter deze hut? Dat je op een gemakkelijk manier kunt genieten van het buitenleven. Zonder de druk van een tweede woning. De website zegt het zo mooi: ‘Put it in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden, and it immediately blends in with the surroundings, inviting you to a whole new life.’
Nu hebben wij het voorrecht om beiden een vakantiehuisje te hebben en snappen daarom de aantrekkingskracht van een klein huisje in de natuur volledig. Helemaal als het zo mooi vorm is gegeven met gebrand cederhout aan de buitenkant, japans plywood aan de binnenzijde en een eenvoudige betonnen vloer.

Logeren in zo’n prachtig huisje ligt voorlopig nog niet tot de mogelijkheden. Maar gelukkig is daar ook een oplossing voor: een nachtje logeren in een MUJI HOTEL. Hiervoor moet je wel naar China of naar Japan afreizen. Iets dat al een tijdje op ons wensenlijstje staat. In het MUJI HOTEL kun je genieten van de MUJI producten én is het de perfecte plek om je lichaam en geest te laten bijkomen van alle indrukken. In 2018 opent MUJI het eerste hotel in Shenzhen China en wij zijn ontzettend benieuwd naar de uitvoering.

Tot die tijd plannen we een tripje naar een van de MUJI winkels in Parijs, Londen of Berlijn en slaan we onze favorieten in. Zoals die fijne pennen: een absolute aanrader. Iedereen die er mee schrijft is verkocht dus nemen wij er altijd een handjevol mee. Of die handige zeeppompjes die je vult met zeep en water waardoor er direct schuim uitkomt. Ze zijn handig om kinderen enthousiast te maken om hun handen goed te wassen. Zie ook de shopping collage voor meer producten en neem een kijkje in de online store. Years back, Nathalie was pregnant of her oldest daughter so about thirteen years ago, she entered a MUJI store in Paris. After a short periode we went back together and also Tessa was sold immediately. In this shop you will find everyday products without a brand but with attention to functionality, quality materials and simple packaging. In addition, the products are also affordable. And that combination makes MUJI so attractive. Unfortunately, there are no stores in the Netherlands. At first glance impossible to understand but if you think about it for a little longer, we of course have HEMA here in the Netherlands. And Dille en Kamille has similarities with the vision of MUJI as well. And, secretly, it’s always a treat to visit a store if you’re in a country where there is a store.

The MUJI brand is expanding further and after the shops, there are also concrete plans for a MUJI HUT. This autumn, only in Japan, the small minimalist houses are launched according to the MUJI concept. The idea behind this hut? That you can enjoy the outdoors in an easy way. Without the pressure of a second home. The website says it so beautiful: ‘Put it in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden, and it immediately blends in with the surroundings, inviting you to a whole new life.’
We love this small cottage because we have the privilege of both having a cottage and therefore we know how great it is to have such a getaway. Especially when it’s so beautifully shaped with burned cedar wood on the outside, Japanese plywood on the inside and a simple concrete floor.

Staying in such a beautiful cottage is not possible yet. But fortunately, there is a solution: staying at a MUJI HOTEL. You do need to travel to China or Japan but this is something that has been on our wish list for a while. At MUJI HOTEL you can enjoy the MUJI products and it is the perfect place to restore both your mind andy body.  In 2018, MUJI will open the first hotel in Shenzhen China and we are very excited how the interior will look.

Until then, we are planning a trip to one of the MUJI stores in Paris, London or Berlin and we made a list of our favorites. Like those nice pens: an absolute must. Everyone who writes with it simply loves them so we always bring a handful of it. Or the handy soapdispensers that you fill with soap and water, giving you  foam from the bottle.
